Moment of Truth

…just another typical love story

Jaime can’t still get out of her mind the things that had happened yesterday. She talked to her crush, John, for almost an hour. John is Jaime’s ultimate crush since they were first year in high school students.

But John only treats Jaime as his friend which is too painful for her. He doesn’t know that Jaime has a secret feeling of affection for him. He doesn’t know that when he tells Jaime about his crush, Kate, Jaime’s heart is aching.

Jaime never gave up. She told herself that someday, she will have the courage to tell John what she really feels for him.

There was one time when Jaime and John were alone in the corner of the basketball court in their school. You can’t hear anything other than the wind blowing so strong, until Jaime broke the silence and asked John the things he have done that day. Jaime feels so happy every time she’s with John. She never showed a reaction of being bored on what John tells her. Love conquered all the feelings inside her.

When John stopped talking, Jaime took the opportunity to tell him what she really feels about him.

“John, I have to tell you something,” she said with trembling voice.

“What is it?” John immediately asked.

“I…” Jaime said when her classmates arrived and asked her to go home now. The moment she’d been waiting for has already gone. She had already had with her the courage.

John was beginning to fall in love with her. He then realized that time that he feels different when he’s with her. But he didn’t mind it and still thought that they are close friends.

The moment of truth has come. It was raining that time so they were stuck in the waiting shed near their school. They were alone. Jaime finally found the most perfect time to tell him. But John talked first. Jaime was surprised when John asked her what she is supposed to tell him. Jaime became more fearless in telling the truth.

“John, you know…” with only the sound of pouring rain. “I love you… more than a friend,” she finally said.

None of them talked after the moment of truth. Jaime was still nervous on how John will react to what she has told her.

John suddenly hugged Jaime so tight with his tears falling from his eyes. Jaime also cried.

“Tears of joy,” Jaime thought to her mind.

But it feels like John is not happy. He cried not because of the happiness he felt. Then, he started talking.

“Why Jaime? Why didn’t you tell me earlier? Kate already accepted me as her boyfriend,” John said as he released Jaime’s body.

Jaime felt so sad. Very very sad. Her tears began falling like the rain. She said, “Oh.. I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have told you that. I’m so happy for you! I hope your relationship with Kate will last long.”

Jaime didn’t know what to do. She just walked towards the road, with her body so wet because of the rain. John just let the scene vanish. He doesn’t want to get things more complicated.

Jaime just walked and walked. She was so helpless. She didn’t notice the car coming. She suddenly crossed the road. Accidentally, Jaime was bumped by the car and thrust forward.

John heard a bang and ran quickly towards her. He was shocked when he saw Jaime stumbled on the road. He quickly hugged Jaime’s body and screaming for help. But the rain poured even harder that the sound of pouring rain also became louder. The blood began to dissolve into the rainwater, so red… so tragic…
It was raining hard. John… hugging Jaime. The driver of the car… still on the driver’s seat.

It was too late to go to hospital. Jaime stopped breathing. She’s dead. John screamed even louder. He didn’t know what to do. He just hugged Jaime, wishing he didn’t tell her about him and Kate.

-end-
